6- Ang Tatay Mong Kalbo

Last October 09, 2015 we watched a play entitled “Ang Tatay mong Kalbo” At first I was wondering why this title of the theater play is like that. “Ang Tatay Mong Kalbo” is an absurd play, which means it is unreasonable, illogical and inappropriate.

I really enjoyed the play! The actors are so talented they really showed their very best in this play. Though their dialogues don’t have any sense they still managed to amuse people. They just kept repeating the same word over and over but it’s still funny. At the first part of the play Mr. and Mrs. Santos are introduced, it is exactly 9:00 pm and they are inside their house which is located in Makati City. Both of them are talking about Jean San Juan and repeating that name several times, they also talked about who’s rice is better. It is their tradition talking to other people and gossiping every night. Then Maria, who is their helper, came out. He or She complains about the messy things inside the house and he/ she seems to be very comfortable in the house. When Maria left, the visitors came; they are Mr. and Mrs. Reyes. It seems that they don’t know each other. After remembering the days when they saw each other in Baguio they realized that they are married and they have a son. The most unforgettable line in this scene is the word “Katakataka” Which is non sense.

Mr. Santos said that there is someone outside the house but when Mrs. Santos went outside, there is no one. Another unforgettable line is delivered in this scene. “Kapag may tumimbre, may tao sa labas.” It is the word that they kept on repeating in this scene. Unexpectedly, Hepe who is a fireman arrived. Mrs. Reyes unexpectedly asked Mrs. Santos about her father and she said “Ayun, nagsusuklay parin.” It is the habit of his father combing his hair even if he doesn’t have a hair anymore.

I enjoyed the play and I hope that Teatre Phileo will produce more engaging play like this one. Thumbs up to all the characters.
