17- The Phantom of the Opera

    THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

You can refer Phantom as a ghost or a physical demonstration of the spirit. Speaking of phantom, last December 17, 2015 we watched a play entitled 'The Phantom of the Opera'. The Phatom of the Opera is a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Webber is known as an English composer and an impresario of musical theatre.

This musical play is superb! The voice of each character is excellent. I idolize Christine Daae because of her beautiful voice,  it gives me goosebumps every time she sings. I also love the part when Christine met the phantom, that she finally met him and when Christine and Raoul reminisces about the "Angel of Music". After meeting Raoul, the phantom suddenly appears in Christine's mirror. Christine and the Phantom are portrayed by Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford. One of the best part also in the musical play is when the Phantom and Christine crosses a subterranean lake to his secret lair. Then the phantom explains why he chooses Christine to sing his music. While Christine awakens from her sleep because of the mannequin, the Phantom composes music at his organ.

I find it creepy when I saw the face of the Phantom, his lips are chapped and his skin is very wrinkled, but I admire the perfection of his voice. All in all, the cast nailed every character that they portrayed. As I've watched the movie, I felt like I'm actually watching the play live. And all I can say is 'WOW'

16- Plagiarism

 Plagiarism

According to Wikipedia, plagiarism is the "wrongful appropriation" and "stealing and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions" and the representation of them as one's own original work. The idea remains problematic with unclear definitions and unclear rules.

Plagiarism is same as cheating. You're copying someone's work without their permission. Plagiarism is a real deal, you thought it is just a simple offense....... But think again. Here in the Philippines, there are several plagiarism issues like Senator Tito Soto's speeches, that student from University of the Philippines , and Manuel V. Pangilinan's speech during the commencement exercise in Ateneo, last 2010.

Plagiarism is common during high school. Students used to copy some articles from a specific website then paste it to their worksheet. And after that, presto! You are now set to submit your plagiarize paper to your teacher. During those days it is not a big deal to copy someone's work because the teachers will just check them if it looks good. They will not double-check if it's plagiarize or not. But today, professors are stricter compare to the teachers that we had before. They will check every sentence in your work then they will paste it to the search box to modify if it's plagiarize or not. Copy and paste are not allowed anymore when you go to college, also 'Copy and Re-phrase' are not advisable.

If I were you, I will just compose my own work and put some witty things on it, than copying a witty work that will make you look like a shitty writer, speaker or student (every thing). Just state what you really want to say. You don't have to copy someone's work, if you would switch places with the one who is being plagiarize, do you think that you will look happy if someone grabs your work? All you have to do is to think.... Think of the possible consequences of your actions. Think twice.

15- Origin of Ice Cream

Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Pistachio, Mint and etc. These are just the few flavors of the ice cream. Ice cream is an all-time favorite, even though it is hot or cold, ice cream is always there. There are also different kinds of ice cream: Hard Ice cream, French Ice Cream, Soft Ice Cream, Gelato, and etc. And maybe it is obvious that today I will talk about the Origin of Ice Cream.

Ice cream (derived from earlier iced cream or cream ice) is a frozen food, typically eaten as a snack Ice cream (derived from earlier iced cream or cream ice) is a frozen food, typically eaten as a snack or dessert, usually made from dairy products, such as milk and cream, and often combined with fruits or other ingredients and flavours. It is typically sweetened with sucrose, corn syrup, cane sugar, beet sugar, and/or other sweeteners. Typically, flavourings and colourings are added in addition to stabilizers. The mixture is stirred to incorporate air spaces and cooled below the freezing point of water to prevent detectable ice crystals from forming.

The meaning of the phrase "ice cream" varies from one country to another. Phrases such as "frozen custard", "frozen yogurt", "sorbet", "gelato" and others are used to distinguish different varieties and styles. In some countries, such as the United States, the phrase "ice cream" applies only to a specific variety, and most governments regulate the commercial use of the various terms according to the relative quantities of the main ingredients.  Products that do not meet the criteria to be called ice cream are labelled "frozen dairy dessert" instead. In other countries, such as Italy and Argentina, one word is used for all variants. Analogues made from dairy alternatives, such as goat's or sheep's milk, or milk substitutes, are available for those who are lactose intolerant, allergic to dairy protein, or vegan.zen yogurt", "sorbet", "gelato" and others are used to distinguish different varieties and styles. HISTORY

China

A frozen mixture of milk and rice was used in China around 200 BC. Maguelonne Toussaint-Samat asserts, in her History of Food, that "the Chinese may be credited with inventing a device to make sorbets and ice cream. They poured a mixture of snow and saltpetre over the exteriors of containers filled with syrup, for, in the same way as salt raises the boiling point of water, it lowers the freezing point to below zero."

Persia and Middle East

Arabs used milk as a major ingredient in the production of ice cream and sweetened it with sugar rather than fruit juices. It was flavoured with rosewater, dried fruits and nuts. In the Persian Empire, people would pour grape-juice concentrate over snow, in a bowl, and eat this as a treat. This was done primarily when the weather was hot, using snow saved in the cool-keeping underground chambers known as "yakhchal", or taken from snowfall that remained at the top of mountains by the summer capital Ecbatana.] In 400 BC, the Persians went further and invented a special chilled food, made of rose water and vermicelli, which was served to royalty during summers. The ice was mixed with saffron, fruits, and various other flavours.
The Roman Emperor Nero (37–68 AD) had ice brought from the mountains and combined it with fruit toppings to create chilled delicacies.

Asia

In the sixteenth century, the Mughal emperors used relays of horsemen to bring ice from the Hindu Kush to Delhi, where it was used in fruit sorbets.

PRODUCTION

Before the development of modern refrigeration, ice cream was a luxury reserved for special occasions. Making it was quite laborious; ice was cut from lakes and ponds during the winter and stored in holes in the ground, or in wood-frame or brick ice houses, insulated by straw. Many farmers and plantation owners, including U.S. Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, cut and stored ice in the winter for use in the summer. Frederic Tudor of Boston turned ice harvesting and shipping into a big business, cutting ice in New England and shipping it around the world.

14- Speak Sense

Last November 26, 2015 the day after the Media Literacy Seminar is the Speak Sense. This event is brought you by APC Speaks. The hosts of this event is from public speaking cluster Roan Medina and from house of debate, Micole Balabat. And Mary Jane Garcia delivered her opening remarks of the event.

The Speak Sense is also interesting just like the Media Literacy. 10 contestants participated in this event, they are from different high schools. The first contestant is from Las Pinas East National High School, he is Carl Matthew Fernandez. I like his voice because you can really here how masculine he is and his posture. The second contestant is from Pasay City High School, she is Paulina Reyes. Her introduction really catches my attention. John Michael Chua Lee and Dominic Co, Jubilee Christian Academy; Allesandro Diomampao, Bangkal High School; Jake Sombilon, Sto. Nino Catholic School; John Paulo Evora, Bangkal High School; Gabriel Delas Alas, Sto. Nino High School; Phoebe Stacey Almario, Las Pinas East High School; Jastine Sanduigang, Pasay City Science High School. There is also an informal debate facilitated by Gerard Lisaca. AC152 won the first round of the mini debate activity, and the TM 151 won the second round. There is also another activity where you have to connect the words that has been given to you by the facilitator. But for me the highlight of the activity is when Sir Deeno participated, a big round of applause for him because he did well. Phoebe Stacey Almario won the 1st place. And she won a flat-screen TV and a medal from Asia Pacific College.

I am glad that all the participants performed well. And Phoebe Almario really deserves that place. And we are now looking forward to the next season of Speak Sense.

13- Media Literacy and Advocacies

Last November 25, 2015 we went to the auditorium to listen a lecture from SubSelfie. Well, at first I thought it was boring but I was wrong, it is entertaining. They talked about Media Literacy and Advocacies. Media Literacy is a range of competencies that permits people to create a message in a wide diversity of media. Media literacy is also about helping students to become skillful and educated in all media forms. It is education that aims to maximize the knowledge of the students ‘understanding of how the media works. It also aims to provide the audience, specifically the students the ability to create media products.

The speakers are Lian Buan, Sophia Balod, and Edmalynne from SubSelfie. Lian Buan is an Associate Producer from State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, and also a Journalism graduate from University of Santo Tomas. Sophia Balod in the other hand, is a Marketing Director, strategist, and News writer from for Quick Response Team and News To Go, and also a former Thomasian. Edmalynne Remillano is a Manager for Advocacies, also a News Writer for State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, and a graduate from University of the Philippines-Diliman. SubSelfie.com is a project of Filipino communication professionals about their stories behind the spot and beyond the newsroom.

The SubSelfie team provides interesting lecture to us SoM Freshmen Students, the speakers are also entertaining especially Ms. Edma who kept on joking around while speaking. Though they only talked for about few hours, we still learned a lot from them about Media Literacy and Advocacies. They taught us the art of interview, the 5 W’s, Advocacy Journalism, objectivity and fairness, and writing a story.

Overall, I enjoy the entire seminar and it really catches the attention of the audience because of the topics. Kudos to Team SubSelfie!

12- Books are better

Reading is for everyone. If you want to learn something new, you need to read; if you want to pass your exam, you need to read and follow the instructions, and if you want to understand an essay or a poem, you need to read it. If you can't get it once then try reading it again.

Reading is a process of decoding a symbol in order to derive its meaning.

The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns, A Walk to Remember, and etc. These novels has its own movie version. But the question is, why does it only became more popular when it releases its movie version? Is watching movie more entertaining than reading books? Does watching movie exercises our imagination? And is reading are only for the nerds?

                                                      credits (photo): Chriszen Joy Villanueva

Reading is not only for the nerds. It is for everyone of all ages, regardless whether you are old or young; you have a free will to read anything you want. You want romance? Go! These are thing why reading is way more better than movies:

1. In books it is easier to know what are things that is going on to the character's mind.
2. You will not be distracted by the characters, or you can also imagine your favorite actor/ actress doing that scene or..... You can imagine that you are in the situation.
3. Books are very portable than bringing your dvd player or laptop around just to watch.
4. Books doesn't have limited power compare to your laptop and it doesn't consume electricity.
5. Reading books takes longer than watching movie. This is one of the best reasons why reading books is better than watching movie.
6. And it is more relaxing holding a book than holding a dvd player.

These are only the few reasons why reading books is better than watching movie. You don't believe me? Why not try it? To see is to believe.

10-#PeperoDayAPC

Anyeongseyo! Almost all of us know that Pepero is one of the best snack here in our country and also in South Korea where it is manufactured. For those who don't have any idea about Pepero, just keep on reading.

Pepero is a cookie stick, dipped in chocolate. And as of now they have 7 flavors: Chocolate, Strawberry, Almond (coated with Chocolate), Nude, White Chocolate Cookie, and Tiramisu Cheese.
Maybe you're wondering 'What is Pepero Day?'

Lotte brings you the most awaited Pepero Day! Last November 11, 2015 Pepero Day was held at the APC Parking Lot. There is a fusion of two vibrant cultures which is Korean and Filipino cultures in every game. There is 11/11 wish wall where in you can write your thoughts about Pepero Day. DIY Pepero is my favorite part in this event because you are free to design your own Pepero, you can put rice crispies, marshmallows, candies, and etc. There are also games during Pepero Day, and what makes it special is that if you won, you can get your free Pepero! APC Band is present to lighten up the vibe. And this day wouldn't be complete without a souvenir, right? We also have a photo booth where in you can take pictures with your friends.

Fortunately, this event was successful. Organizers, participants, and even professors enjoyed free Pepero brought to us by Lotte.

This event wouldn’t be possible without APJMA (Asia Pacific Junior Marketing Association). They are the ones who invested their time and effort in this event. And also Lotte, because without their product, we will not be able to experience what Pepero Day feels like.

This event is full of laughter and enjoyment. I hope that Pepero will invade our school again and bring more Pepero for us students to enjoy. Again, thank you Lotte for this one.

9- Parasytes

Parasite is a creature that lives in or on another organism and benefits by obtaining nutrients at the host's expense.

Yesterday we watched a Japanese movie entitled ‘Parasyte’ it is a science fiction horror film. It is based on a Japanese manga series which is written and illustrated by Hitoshi Iwaaki. It is about aliens who enter into human brains and takes control. The main character in this movie is Shinichi. An alien tries to enter Shinichi’s brain; unfortunately the alien got blocked because of Shinichi’s headphones. Instead, he invades Shinichi’s right hand. Then, Shinichi calls it Migi. Migi has an eye and a mouth which makes him a cute alien. They join force to kill the other parasites. At first Shinichi is very scared in confronting with the other parasites, but as the time passes by he get used to it.

The movie is exciting and also disgusting because of the eating part. I also love the part when Shinichi saves his ‘friend’ from another parasite. Shinichi looks hot when he went on the top of the building to shoot the other parasite. But the saddest part of the movie is when Mr. A invades the body of Shinichi’s mother and because of that, Shinichi needs to kill the body of his mother to kill the parasite inside her, which is the very hard. Seeing your mother die is very heartbreaking, it feels like you’re already dying. When his mother died he became cold hearted. At the end of the movie it seems that there is a continuation of it, then Ms. Eliz said that there will be a second part of the movie. And now I am looking forward to the second part of it because of Shinichi.

This movie shows that everyone can be brave, fight for what is right.

8- SoM Week

.SoM Week is celebrated annually in Asia Pacific College. The opening started last Monday, October 26, and was held at the parking lot. There were a lot of events last week, namely; the SoM Sports Fest, the SoM Fair, SoM Night, and the most awaited Mr. and Ms. SoM.

The students witnessed the Marketing and Advertising team duke it out with the Business Management team for the first game this year. Students also witnessed the basketball game between MA and Accountancy. Unfortunately, MA lost. On the bright side, MA won the silver medal in Volleyball for the Men's division.

During the SoM fair, booths from different organizations were presented at the cafeteria.  One of the booths present were from APJMA, it is a photo booth where  you can take  pictures with your friends. There were also stalls inside the cafeteria like that day is also for APJMA; they had  the Advertisement IQ and Faculty Bluff as their highlight. AD IQ is a game where you will guess what advertisement or commercial it is just by looking at the clues given to you. A limited amount of time is also given to answer each question. The other booth as I mentioned was Faculty Bluff, it was taken from GMA’s "Celebrity Bluff" so I would imagine that it sounds familiar to all of you. The hosts in this event were Lola Nidora and Yaya Wisdom/Dub. Fortunately, the first ever Faculty Bluff was successful.

And of course the most awaited event in the SoM week was the Mr. And Ms. SoM. I am proud to present that the newly crowned Mr. and Ms. SoM are Karyll Lapuz and Jennah Cruz, both from Marketing and Advertising. Both contestants gave their all in the pageant. The Mr. and Ms. SoM pageant was made possible by JPMAP and other sponsors.

SoM Week was awesome! I just hope that next year's SoM week would be equally or even more amazing than it was this year.

7- APC Non- Smoking Campaign

Smoking is very bad for your health. Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body. Cigarette smoking causes a big percent of lung cancer deaths. It is also accountable for many other cancers and health problems. These include lung disease, heart and blood vessel disease, stroke and cataracts. Women who smoke have a greater chance of pregnancy problems. Your smoke is also bad for other people; they breathe in your smoke and they might get the same problems as smokers do.

Smokers say that they started smoking during their teenage years and are addicted when they reach adulthood. Why people smoke? Based on my observations there are four reasons why young people smoke. It is to look cool, to look mature, to experiment, and because of peer pressure.

In smoking there are pros and cons:

PROS
-         - They will look cool
-          -The bonding experience with other smokers
-          -Burn more calories
-          -Can calm nerves

CONS
-          -The after-smell on your clothes
-          -Bad breathe
-          -Not being able to breathe properly
-          -Hypertension
-          -Yellow teeth
-          -Can cause chapped lips
-          -Coughing so hard

Smoking can kill you. It cause fatal diseases like: Lung cancer, bronchitis, pneumonia and emphysema. Quitting is the best thing that you can do, though it’s hard it will be worth it. Do you really love yourself? If you do, stop smoking. If you try to impress a boy or a girl, do you think they will like you if they found out that you’re smoking? IF YOU REALLY LOVE THEM, QUIT SMOKING. You don’t want to pass your bad habit to them, right? And when you continued to smoke, there is a possibility that your future children will be just like you.

6- Ang Tatay Mong Kalbo

Last October 09, 2015 we watched a play entitled “Ang Tatay mong Kalbo” At first I was wondering why this title of the theater play is like that. “Ang Tatay Mong Kalbo” is an absurd play, which means it is unreasonable, illogical and inappropriate.

I really enjoyed the play! The actors are so talented they really showed their very best in this play. Though their dialogues don’t have any sense they still managed to amuse people. They just kept repeating the same word over and over but it’s still funny. At the first part of the play Mr. and Mrs. Santos are introduced, it is exactly 9:00 pm and they are inside their house which is located in Makati City. Both of them are talking about Jean San Juan and repeating that name several times, they also talked about who’s rice is better. It is their tradition talking to other people and gossiping every night. Then Maria, who is their helper, came out. He or She complains about the messy things inside the house and he/ she seems to be very comfortable in the house. When Maria left, the visitors came; they are Mr. and Mrs. Reyes. It seems that they don’t know each other. After remembering the days when they saw each other in Baguio they realized that they are married and they have a son. The most unforgettable line in this scene is the word “Katakataka” Which is non sense.

Mr. Santos said that there is someone outside the house but when Mrs. Santos went outside, there is no one. Another unforgettable line is delivered in this scene. “Kapag may tumimbre, may tao sa labas.” It is the word that they kept on repeating in this scene. Unexpectedly, Hepe who is a fireman arrived. Mrs. Reyes unexpectedly asked Mrs. Santos about her father and she said “Ayun, nagsusuklay parin.” It is the habit of his father combing his hair even if he doesn’t have a hair anymore.

I enjoyed the play and I hope that Teatre Phileo will produce more engaging play like this one. Thumbs up to all the characters.

5-Self Introduction

Bonjour! It means ‘Hello!’ in French. My name is Michelle, originally the French feminine form of Michael, meaning gift from God. I just turned sixteen last July 31, and I’m from Taguig. My parents are originally from Batangas and Quezon Province. And I’m the only child.

I am a fan of Ateneo Lady Eagles; sometimes I watch their games live. I can cook Adobo, Tinola, Nilagang Baka and etc. I write stories, like love stories. One of my dreams is to become a Pediatrician, because I wanted to wear that white coat and stethoscope and I like kids. I love Batchoy! I can finish two bowls in one seating. I also help my parents in our family business; and I also do what our workers do, I carry boxes, and I display products.

I’m a happy kid, I love making everyone happy. I make funny faces, I also crack jokes and I’m good at impersonating. I hate it when someone is not in the mood, so aside from being a student, I’m also a part time comedian! When someone is not in the mood I go to them and share positive vibes; I’ll sing a song that will reflect their mood, then they will suddenly laugh. It feels good when you make someone happy. I love being happy. But there are times that I feel so alone. I’m also independent; since I was in grade five my parents used to leave me alone in our house for their work. So, that means I will cook food for myself, do the dishes alone, clean our house etc.

As I end this speech, I just wanted to say; be happy always. Don’t let other people control your happiness and positivity is a must. Thank you for reading and I wish you all the smiles and love in life.

4- Turn left, turn right

Fate is a thing that will happen to a person or the future that someone or something will have. But for you, do you believe in fate? If you would ask me the same question I’ll say, yes. I do believe in fate. Every person is destined to be happy, to be loved, to be free, to be real and to be with someone. But sometimes fate is too playful. You actually do not know that the person in front of you is the one that you will love till the end.

I want to connect this topic to the movie that we already watched last week which is ‘Turn left, turn right’.  This romantic movie is about a man who is an aspiring violinist and a woman who is a literary translator who are perfect for each other but it seems that destiny loves to play with them. Another thing about them is that they didn’t know that they’re just neighbours and they almost crossed paths with each other several times.

Takeshi and Gigi met unintentionally at the park fountain. Then Gigi’s papers accidentally fell into the fountain. Gigi asked his telephone number. The two never got in touch because Gigi left her bag on the train and lost Takeshi’s phone number.  The two laugh while talking about the past and exchange phone numbers without asking each other’s name before parting because of the rain.  That night after that encounter they are both happy and excited to see each other again. Unfortunately both of them got sick because of the rain. While they’re in pain because of their flu, they kept on guessing the number written in the paper it is not readable because it got wet during the rainstorm.

One of the numbers they called is a restaurant that Ruby works at as a waitress and also a delivery person. When Ruby arrives at the apartment (Takeshi’s), she fell for Takeshi. Takeshi’s and Gigi’s flu becomes tough that they are both taken to the hospital. Then this Dr. Hu came inside the picture. Dr. Hu happens to be a former classmate of Gigi from the university who has a crush on her. Then this Doctor also believes in fate and  he tells Gigi that it must be fate that they met each other. While discharging, Takeshi and Gigi gave their keys to Ruby and Dr. Hu. Then both of them found out that Ruby and Dr. Hu moved into each of their apartments, but both of make it clear that they don’t have feelings for Ruby and Dr. Hu. Where do broken hearts go?  Dr. Hu and Ruby ended up being together. They planned something for Takeshi and Gigi.

3-Heneral Luna

Heneral Luna is such a great film. They also hit the trend list on twitter and there are so many memes scattered on facebook.

Antonio Luna a.k.a Heneral Luna was a Filipino general who fought hard in the Philippine-American War. He was the youngest child of seven. He is considered as the most intelligent of the Filipino officers during the war. He is also part of the Malolos Congress. And Luna also studied literature, pharmacy, and chemistry.

Last October 8, 2015 after our class in Expository and Technical Writing we immediately went straight to Glorietta 4 to watch Heneral Luna because it is also a requirement in our EEP Class to make a blog about this movie. There are seven of us who watched the movie. When we went to the ticket booth to purchase a ticket we are shocked because there is no discount for students so we ended up paying for its regular price.

When we entered the cinema, the movie is already rolling so we run towards our seats quickly. Based on my observations I’ve noticed that Heneral Luna likes cursing and that’s kinda funny, even the elders at our back are laughing. I must say that Luna is a brave man. He doesn’t care about himself; he always fights for his countrymen. I also like the actors who portrayed the characters of Antonio Luna, Emilio Aguinaldo and Apolinario Mabini. Also the cinematography of the movie is superb! Then it really looks like they’re in the situation.

I want to give  10 high fives to all the characters, to the production company, and most especially to their director Mr. Jerrold Tarog. All of you produced a marvellous movie that captivated the hearts and minds of all Filipinos who watched. Another 10 high fives to you all!

2-One Big Fight!

Since they are all talking about the UAAP Cheer Dance Competition, let me connect this event to my new post. No, I will not talk about the cheer dance. Instead, I will share another memorable event that I've experienced.

Go Ateneo! One Big Fight! Yes, you’re right! I’m a fan of  Ateneo Lady Eagles. I watch their games live, especially when they play against their archrival (La Salle). I also have four shirseys and three jackets from Ateneo. I started watching volleyball when I was in 3rd year High school (I know it’s kinda late), when I found out that my best friend likes volleyball. I really don’t like volleyball before. I find it boring because the crowd isn't that much if you would compare it to basketball, then I’m not used to watch volleyball also. During the Finals: Game One between ADMU and DLSU, my best friend messaged me that I should watch it because it is an Ateneo-La Salle game. So, I did what she said. Then I was surprised, the venue is insane! One side covered in blue. The other one is green. I watched the full game then I jumped in happiness when my favorite color won (Ateneo)! It’s their first time to win a championship (women’s division). Since that day I became interested in watching UAAP volleyball.

After UAAP Season 76, I’ve been following some athletes from Ateneo Lady Eagles, like Dennise Lazaro, Ella De Jesus, and Alyssa Valdez. Before the opening of Season 77, I started saving money for the tickets because I really wanted to watch it live. As far as I can remember I earned three-thousand pesos for the tickets and shirts.
Last January 11, 2015 I’m with my cousin and we went to MOA Arena to see the game. Our tickets are just LB Standing, but it’s worth it. I took some photos, because it is my first time to watch.

You can see the people around wearing blue and green. Even though our tickets are just LB Standing were kinda lucky because we can switch places, from one side to another. And fortunately they won against DLSU.

From Left to Right: Gequillana, Madayag, Ahomiro, Maraguinot, De Leon, Morado, Gaston, De Jesus, Tan, Lavitoria, Patnongon, Lazaro, Valdez.

Then this one is taken last March. It is the Championship game between the ADMU and DLSU (as usual).

I don’t know why I took a photo of their shuttle bus (LOL!). There goes Alyssa Valdez and Dennise Lazaro (Gen Ad feels like). Then the last one, on the lower left side of the collage is the score 23-25 in favor of Ateneo to end this championship game.

And now I’m very excited for this season because it is the last playing year of the Team Captain: Alyssa Valdez.  Good day everyone!ONE BIG FIGHT!

1- Trip to UST

Bonjour! It is French, just like my header (the Michelle, ma belle thingy).  Anyway, let’s go back to the gist of this post. I’ll share my experience when I was in UST last September 2014.

“How do I get there?”  I said to my aunt who knows the in and outs of Manila. And she said that I should take the LRT, then go down to this station and take another ride and that’s it! I thought it will be that easy, but I was wrong. When I was in the jeep, I remember what my aunt told me last time that I might be surrounded by Mapuan students, then this girl with a 'Mapua Institute of Technology ' lace caught my eye, and I said to myself “ I think I’ll just follow her.”

When I arrived at the LRT station, I followed her. Then, I noticed that she is heading to the rest room, instead of following her I proceed to the ticketing booth and pay for a single journey ticket. And the waiting game begins, when I enter the train I saw so many students from different universities like, FEU, MIT, Letran etc. And TADA! After few minutes we reached the Central Station!

And then I walk for about 10 minutes to reach SM Manila, because my aunt said that most of the jeepneys that are passing to UST are there, then I asked this barker if this jeep will pass through Espana and he said yes. I saw these two students who are wearing a commerce uniform and they are obviously from UST, and I decided to follow them. While I was inside the jeep I kept on looking at their uniform and imagining myself wearing that and spending my college years in UST. After that mini day dreaming, I said to myself “Shoot! I think they’re not going to UST, they’re going somewhere else! ” cause I’ve noticed that the buildings aren't familiar (because, we went to Espana before). And the jeepney driver unloads us somewhere in Recto, and I have no choice but to get off. I looked like a lost kid in the crowd, but in the brighter side, I saw a tricycle lane and I ask this tricycle driver if he can take me to Espana and YAY! He can take me there!

*Drum rolls* I want to shout Go USTe! My heart is pounding and my hands are very cold, though the weather is hot. I don’t know what to feel! I’M SO HAPPY AND I JUST CAN’T HIDE IT! Yes, you’re right. I’m a frustrated Thomasian, I want to study there so bad even though it’s very far from our home. UST is my dream school, and always will. Okay, enough with the drama.

When I enter the campus, I feel like a Thomasian. I’m just walking like a normal student. Then, when I saw this ‘University of Santo Tomas’ thingy, I take a picture of it.  I also took a photo of the famous ‘Arch of the Centuries’, you can see it below.
All the incoming students will experience the Thomasian Welcome Walk as their initiation rite, and they will pass through under the arch (it is also my dream to pass through that arch). There is a superstition that if you are studying here, you should not pass under the arch until you graduate (except the welcome walk). But, if you’re hard-headed and pass through this arch while you’re staying here in the university you might get debarred.

Another picture! The Main Building! They say that this building is earthquake-proof. Just, disregard the two guys on the left, the chairs in front, and the lifting machinery on the left side. There goes the statue of Miguel de Benavides.

University of Santo Tomas Field! You know the movie One More Chance? They shoot one of their scenes here.

Okay, let’s go back! My real agenda today is to pass my application form at the Tan Yan Kee Building (Teriyaki!). And I was lost again; I don’t know where to go. Fortunately, I saw this CFAD student and I asked her where the Tan Yan Kee Building is located, and then she said she can lead me there. She also asked me if what course I am applying for and I said “My first choice is marketing and the second one is Pharmacy.”  And FINALLY! We reached the TYK Building and this CFAD girl said “Good luck!” before she departed.

Inside the TYK Building, I was like “Is there a gathering or something?” And I was surprised; teenagers are escorted by their parents. And I’m sitting there alone. I submitted my application form and other requirements and TADAAAA!! I’m done!

Before I leave, I visited their parish. I stayed there for awhile and enjoy the beauty of it. And I bought a little yellow rosary.

When I finally exited from the university, I said to myself “One day.....”
